First/Last-Hollis Brown

Southside

"Born and bred in New York City, Hollis Brown embarked on a pilgrimage to Nashville to capture their authentic sound. They shacked up for two weeks in the backyard cabin/studio of producer Adam Landry (Deer Tick, Middle Brother), and found themselves. They recorded everything live, straight to analog tape. The result was a warm, vintage sound that displays the band's explosive live energy. Their new EP, Nothing & The Famous No One, takes the listener back to that cabin to experience the raw vibe, smell the smoke, and feel alive."

The band can be found at their official Website, FaceBook, BandCamp, MySpace, Twitter and YouTube. They are performing in Pittsburgh tomorrow night at Club Cafe with support from locals Walker and The Rebellion and The Brushfire. My thanks to lead singer Mike Montali for taking a few moments to participate in this edition of First/Last.

The first album you ever bought?
I can't  remember, probably some horrible early 90's R&B like Shai, or Jodeci. It was a phase.

Your last album bought?
I got what I thought was an Otis Redding live bootleg recording for a dollar. I buy a handful of dollar vinyls every week or so. When I opened it up, it was "Donny Hathaway Live at The Bitter End”. Still a steal for a buck.

Favorite album of all time?
“Exile on Main St.”.

Least favorite/most disappointing album?
Probably Neil Young's "Trans".

First concert attended?
AC/DC at Madison Square Garden.

Last concert?
We opened for Lucero last week, I don't know if that counts.

Favorite concert ever?
There have been some great ones, but my favorite is still the first time I saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Least favorite concert?
Any hipster bullshit.

Any thoughts, experiences about Pittsburgh?
Pittsburgh is a fun town, when the Steelers win. When they lose it's a bit depressing.

Thanks a lot, Mike. You are not kidding about when The Steelers lose. It's like a gray pall comes over the city. Strange.
