Brookline

My friends in the band asked if I was interested in coming over and hanging out while they practice? Erm, well, I have this...hell yeah! There is something so interesting to me about being in the room while a band works out tunes. Probably my favorite aspect of doing this blog is to get these kind of invites. They were shaping up the setlist for their big CD release gig this Saturday at Brillobox. As seems the case lately with these local release shows, it will probably be a sell out, so get there early. BTW, I have been lucky enough to hear the new record (which you get free at the show!) and it is quite fantastic. Some press here and here.

Northside

One of my favorite bands in the city playing a tiny corner of the room. I was desperately trying to hang for the whole set but was so tired from a long week. As always, they sounded great, even in a noisy Northside bar on a Friday night. Coming up in April, they are playing in a quiet library on a Sunday afternoon and I hope they take my advice and rock out the grannies trying to read their books!

One of my favorite local bands Small Cities have changed their name to The Slow Reel. They were offering up a four song EP at the gig and I am happy to say that it adheres to the classic rock sensibilities of their former release. There is more music to come from these guys in the new year and I, for one, am stoked. Listen to the set here. More pics here.
