First/Last-Boulevard of the Allies

"You're probably wondering "what is a Boulevard of the Allies?" Ha ha!
A lot of people ask us this question. Well, some of you may know it as the road in downtown Pittsburgh that features little more than a couple bars, a university and Old Hungry Bradsly, the homeless man who roams the avenue with his one eyed dog Spiderman. As a matter of fact, it's also the name of a Pittsburgh based rock band fronted by a Londoner. This is their Facebook page and that's where you are at, yo. Don't like the sound of that? Then get off my lawn! Just kidding. You can stay. So listen to the music and enjoy your life!"

Boulevard of the Allies is Joel Lindsey's band, a singer from London who has made Pittsburgh his home for almost a decade now. They have their big CD release show on Sunday (11/1) at Double Wide Bar and Grill on the Southside. I want to thank Joel for taking the time to participate in this edition of First/Last.

The first album you ever bought?
“Nevermind”, Nirvana.

Your last album bought?
“The Royal Sessions”, Paul Rodgers.

Favorite album of all time?
“Rubber Soul”, The Beatles and “Live at Sin-e”, Jeff Buckley.

First concert attended?
‘Dangerous’, Michael Jackson at Wembley Arena.

Last concert?
Fleetwood Mac, Consol Energy Center, Pittsburgh.

Favorite concert ever?
Eric Clapton at the Albert Hall, Paul Simon at Wembley.

Least favorite concert?
Mark Knopfler, Shepherds Bush Empire, London.

Favorite thoughts, experiences about Pittsburgh?
I love everything about this city except the word "yinz", the very cold winters and the locals' occasional love for terrible country music.
I've seen some great bands and had the opportunity to play exciting shows with exceptional musicians. I may be from London, but I very much call Pittsburgh my home these days. I've been here for 7 years and I enjoy watching it grow and change.

Bonus Question:
Favorite band of all time?

Free.

Thanks, Joel. Being from another country, it's cool you just might have THE most 'Pittsburgh' name around.

First time seeing these guys play. Since it was a bookstore, I half expected an acoustic set. Not to be, thankfully. They rocked out the joint, that's if you can call somewhat sensitive, acoustic songwriting rockin'. Unfortunately, I had to bail halfway through the show to catch bands in two other locations that afternoon. No worries, I'll see them again soon enough.
