First/Last-Beauty Slap

"The performance would not have satisfied the most orthodox chamber music fans, but let’s not think in those terms. In particular, Beauty Slap’s approach made for a dynamic concert experience unlike anything I’d attended before." - Pittsburgh Post Gazette

Beauty Slap is a Pittsburgh 'electro-brass-thunder-funk" band that is starting to make some noise in the scene here. Consisting of mixing horns and other traditional instruments with DJ Jakeisrain, the band offers it's unique take on what you can do with electronic dance music. I want to thank Jake Berntsen (DJ/Keyboards) for taking the time to participate in this edition of First/Last.

Very tricky question. I'll kinda sidestep here and say in general, I don't love seeing bands at Consol Energy Center. The sound system is just a little wack sounding.

Favorite thoughts, experiences about Pittsburgh?
I love this place. We're a young band, we've only had the name Beauty Slap for about 6 months. Pittsburgh has been the ideal place for us to grow, with events like First Night Pittsburgh and the Three Rivers Arts Festival giving us amazing opportunities to play for thousands of amazing people. But my absolute favorite thing - and I really believe this - is that I think that people in Pittsburgh are better dancers than other places, cause they're willing to work hard on the dance floor. At the end of our shows, we're all just about dead, and the crowd is usually right there with us.

Thanks, Jake. Pittsburgh is the home to great dancers, huh? Hey, you should know, man.
