Dean & Britta play Galaxie 500
Carnegie Lecture Hall
Saturday, January 15, 2011
Oakland

As promised, this show was great. I always enjoy seeing Dean & Britta. What made it extra awesome was the venue. Not a bad seat in the house and the acoustics were fantastic. Hopefully the Warhol books more shows there. More pics here.

First/Last-Dean Wareham & Britta Phillips

Dean & Britta
Carnegie Lecture Hall
Saturday, January 15, 2011
Oakland

The band is playing a special show tonight in Oakland. The set consists entirely of songs from Dean's former group, Galaxie 500. So that means probably no Tiger Lily...sniff. Opening the night are local favs Meeting Of Important People doing a rare all acoustic set. Seriously, this is the year's first not miss show. Dean & Britta released one of my favorite albums of last year and were kind enough to participate in this special 'preview' edition of First/Last.

The first album you ever bought?
Britta: “Frampton Comes Alive”.

Your last album bought?
Dean: Handel's "Bejun Mehta".
Britta: “The Essential Nina Simone".

Favorite album of all time?
Britta: Too difficult to choose, but off the top of my head, "Love and Other Crimes" by Lee Hazlewood, "Loaded" by The Velvet Underground".

Least favorite/most disappointing album?
Britta: I can't answer either of those questions. There are so many disappointing and "worst" albums, I think I just automatically block them out.

First concert attended?
Dean: Leo Sayer in Central Park.
Britta: Blondie opening for Rush.

Last concert?
Dean: The Zombies.
Britta: Dirty Projectors.

Favorite concert ever?
Dean: Pere Ubu.
Britta: The Feelies.

Any thoughts, experiences about Pittsburgh?
We love Pittsburgh!

Thanks to both of you. Take my word for it, Pittsburgh loves you guys back. I am really looking forward to this show tonight.

Dean & Britta
Warhol Live! Opening Reception
Andy Warhol Museum
Saturday June 14, 2009
Northside

So why focus on a show that took place almost a year ago now? Why not? For reasons I cannot explain, I sometimes put off editing my photos for a show until, well...I feel like it. That's not to say that this show wasn't enjoyable. I have to say the exact opposite. It was probably my favorite show of last year for a number of reasons. The set itself had a great mix of Dean's entire career (I finally got to hear 'Tiger Lily' live before I die!) The outdoor stage area was more than comfortable(?) for a concertgoer. The accompanying exhibit was interesting and entertaining at the same time. Maybe the perfect Pittsburgh night.

Warhol Live
Saturday June 13, 2009
Andy Warhol Museum
Northshore

Dean & Britta played a spectacular set to open this exhibit. Lots of film, artifacts, posters, albums, prints, music, and all around awesomeness that made Warhol what he was. Was that THE original 'VU and Nico' mock-up? Cool. More here.

Image Of The Day-"Vacation"

Hi everybody. I am going on vacation and will not be updating the blog. I have a lot of shows backlogged, including the ones pictured, and there are a TON of shows I am hitting this summer which will provide plenty of fertile material for this site (Jenny Lewis, Camera Obscura, Conor Oberst, Old 97's, Sam Roberts, Son Volt, Steve Earle, to name a few). As always, thank you for visiting my tiny piece of the interwebs and I will be back next week.

Wednesday October 22, 2008
Pittsburgh, PA
These two are in town to perform an original score to accompany 13 of Andy Warhol's innovative screen tests. Rosemary's interview was rather informative and we got four very stripped down songs for the session. They were so damned quiet my camera click could be heard, hence the lack of quality photos. I am sort of pissed because I ordered tickets awhile ago and have two in the front row in the top balcony. A week ago they put on sale better seats (I guess this thing isn't a big seller) and now discover a couple of days ago there is a promo with YEP for $10 seats as opposed to the $25 I paid. To add insult to injury, my wife comes down with pneumonia and I am probably gonna have to eat $60.
