Image of the Day-"Never Going Back Again"

An Evening with Lindsey Buckingham

I have to admit I am a sucker for classic rock. When I was ten years old, Rumours was the first album I ever bought. I can appreciate the whole solo acoustic thing but these versions were waaaay slow and frankly not that exciting. What do I know, the crowd was eating it up so that is all that really matters. Shooting the show for WYEP, I really don't know anything about these guys other than the huge hit they had back in 1991. I did see them play before at Starlake when touring with Rusted Root. The Root were opening for the band on the tour but closed the night I saw them...hometown heroes gone big and all. More photos here.

Image Of The Day-"Cardinal Song"

I was on assignment for WYEP and probably wouldn't have been there without that excuse. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate this band, I just don't particularly like them. I have tried several times to discover what a lot of other people seem to enjoy about them but so far, nothing. Their fans REALLY love them, which is cool and all, just don't count me among them. They mentioned from the stage that they played in a little club (Club Cafe, that is) in Pittsburgh before they graduated to larger halls and if I did catch them way back when, maybe I would be into them more? I dunno. I got to file this band (along with Sufjan Stevens, The Decemberists, and Vampire Weekend) in the category of "I don't get it?" More photos here.

Owen opened for The National and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't think I would be into his music but I was. I am starting to really love this venue. Lately the acoustics have been superb and as a photog, I am fortunate enough to get a front row perspective of the beautiful surroundings.

Image Of The Day-"All Days Are Nights"

On 'assignment' for the good folks at WYEP, I really wasn't familiar with his work at all. I kind of wish I was, in that I would have definitely appreciated it more. The show was broken up into two parts, the first consisting of his devastatingly personal new album, Songs For Lulu, in it's entirety. The second was more of a regular set. The whole show was sans band with just Rufus and a grand piano. He sounded great and I can't help to think the ornate surroundings added to the show. His sister Martha opened the night with a just as spare performance. A more detailed review here. More photos here.

I loved Grandaddy. In turn, I love Jason Lytle. His solo disc doesn't stray far from his old band's sound and is creeping up to the top of my year end list. As for the show, he was way mellow but sounded incredible in the pastoral setting. I actually enjoyed his set better than Neko's.

Sorry for the delay in posts but I seriously enjoyed the time off. I am still trying to figure out my role in this 'burgh blogh community. I want to provide the latest info and and be relevant without being repetitive. My photos do that but damn it's a ton of work. As I said before I left, I have a ton of stuff backlogged and I am going to start with Jason's set list. He opened for Neko Case and was amazing and as nice as a person could be. She was good as well but I really don't think I want to get into that right away, that post is for another day. I will have more images from the show eventually but for now let me just say his solo disc is kicking my world.
