"In the Summer of 2013 White Light Spectrum came into being with the
intention of writing an EP as a side project for 5 working musicians.
Half way through the first practice 3 songs were written and the seed
was planted that this may in fact be more than what was initially
intended. Taking influence from Classic Rock, Indie, Soul, and of course
a heavy dose of the Blues, WLS has revealed itself in short time as a powerful force in the burgeoning Pittsburgh music scene."
Check out the band on Facebook and YouTube. The new Pittsburgh based blues-rock quintet has a powerful single under their belt in the blistering 'Love to Bring' as they look forward to making more noise in 2014. I want to thank Shawn Mazzei (Guitar) for taking the time to participate in this edition of First/Last.
The first album you ever bought?
Jimi Hendrix's "Are You Experienced' changed my life. It was the album that actually got me started playing guitar. Still listen to it at the very least, once a week.

Your last album bought?
"On Every Street" Dire Straits. I'm a sucker for Mark Knopfler.

Favorite album of all time?
This is probably the hardest question I've ever been asked so I had to go to iTunes and see what albums get the most plays. John Mayer “Continuum” pretty much runs away with the victory. Doyle Bramhall II “Welcome” and Big Wreck “Albatross” are the only other two that have a fighting chance to take first place.

Least favorite/most disappointing
album?
So I'm a huge blues fan, more than any other style of music. I had picked up this album by The Rides which was a collab between Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Stephen Stills, and Barry Goldberg. Chris Layton (from SRV's band) on the kit. has all the makings of a magic album. This album was horrible. Complete disappointment.

First concert attended?
Indigenous at Hartwood Acres. It was the Pittsburgh Blues Fest. Something about Mato crankin a Strat through a Marshall did something to me that day. I was probably 10 or 11 at the time.

Last concert?
I see bands in the area all the time. My last real concert though was ZZ Top. That band is cool as hell. My second time seeing them.

Favorite concert ever?
I'd say seeing Eric Clapton when he had Doyle Bramhall II on guitar and Steve Jordan on drums. He had an all-star band that night.

Thanks, Shawn. Weird how flat that album from The Rides was with all that talent involved. I heard the live shows were a tad better than the studio stuff.
Hey Hugh! Thanks for taking the time to feature us on your blog. I look forward to meeting you in person at a show very soon.
