Friday, January 25, 2013
Southside

"Before You is an American pop punk band comprised of Philip Arena, Bret Pusateri, Jason Capela, and Jed Dixon. Based in Pittsburgh, the band is built with musicians who are all veterans to the local music scene; having spent time in various other bands before coming together as who they are today in 2011. Before You is currently focusing on promotion for their debut EP, 'Meet Me At Whisper Lake' which was released on February 21st, 2012. The band has planned to release a music video before the end of 2012 and has plans to write some new songs for release in early 2013."

You can find the band on it's official Website, FaceBook, Bandcamp, Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr. They are performing this Friday at the Moose along with The I Drive for the early show at 6:30 p.m. My thanks to Philip Arena (Vocals/Bass) for taking a few minutes to participate in this edition of First/Last.

The first album you ever bought?
I bought three records at once for my first purchase. TLC’s “CrazySexyCool”, Boyz II Men’s “II”, Mariah Carey, “Daydream”.

Your last album bought?
Title Fight, “Floral Green”.

Favorite album of all time?
Hard to say but one that I can listen to all the way through on a continual basis would be “Reality’s Coming Through” by Hot Rod Circuit. It might be my favorite.

Least favorite/most disappointing album?
I would have to say “So Wrong, It’s Right” by All Time Low. I was looking for something stellar because their prior EP was so good, then needless to say, I was disappointed.

First concert attended?
Brian Setzer Orchestra at IC Light Amphitheater.

Last concert?
Bayside, The Composure & Trophies at Altar Bar.

Favorite concert ever?
Yellowcard & Rufio at Club Laga in Oakland.

Least favorite concert?
Kenny Chesney, Gretchen Wilson & Keith Urban at Heinz Field. Although my now wife had a great time & Keith Urban can shred a guitar, it was a little disappointing.

Any thoughts, experiences about Pittsburgh?
Pittsburgh is my home and no matter where I end up, it will always be a part of me. When I was at school in Florida and homesick and the Pens won the Stanley Cup in 2008/2009. That was one of the greatest moments in my life connected with this city. I felt so much pride and I’ll never forget it.

Thanks, Philip. Loved the energy during your sets at those Altar Bar contests. Hope to see you soon, buddy.
