First/Last-Andre Costello

"AndrĂ© Costello's musical journey was jump-started in part by a college-age breakup — not a horribly unique story. But it was helped along by the Law of Increased Entropy; in that, perhaps he's a bit more novel. Fortunately, Costello — an Ellwood City native who lives in Brookline — says he learned to "find a beauty in the terrible." And after a stint in the band The Slant, Costello prepared his solo debut AndrĂ© Costello and the Cool Minors."

Andre is one of my favorite local performers. His band's fantastic self-titled full length gets played a lot at my house and I am eagerly awaiting a follow up. My thanks to him for taking a few to participate in this edition of First/Last.

The first album you ever bought?
At the moment, Led Zeppelin, “IV”/”Four”/”Four Sticks”/”Zoso”/”Man With Sticks”.

Your last album bought?
At the moment, Grizzly Bear, “Shields”.

Favorite album of all time?
Toss-up between “Abbey Road”, “Dark Side of The Moon”, and “Moondance”.

Least favorite/most disappointing album?
The Doors, “Morrison Hotel”.

First concert attended?
Roger, ‘In The Flesh Tour’, 1999.

Last concert?
Grand Piano. The dudes rock... competently.

Favorite concert ever?
At the moment, I can say Akron/Family with Megafaun at The Warhol ca. 2008 was a profoundly intimate show.

Least favorite concert?
Open mic at The Beehive... does that count?

Favorite thoughts, experiences about Pittsburgh?
The sheer amount of creative talent in Pittsburgh is absolutely humbling to me and more so an inspiration. If we could break away from this "There's always something better going on elsewhere" mentality, we might realize that we're at the center of the universe.

Thanks, Andre. I was at that Roger Waters gig. First Row, Center. Amazing!
